Increasing environmental demands

Appropriate legislation and enforcement of the legislation has been strengthened and the authorities today want to enter into a dialogue with the company instead of exerting traditional control.

As a principal component of pollution control, Chapter 5 of the Environmental Protection Act introduces a licence system. The system first and foremost has the goal to control the setting up of new enterprises, plants and installations included in the Annex to the Act.

The Minister for Environment has drawn up a list of heavily polluting enterprises, plants and installations covered by this approval obligation.

Applications for approval under Chapter 5 of the Act shall be submitted to the local council or the county council and shall be accompanied by the plans, drawings and descriptions required to evaluate the project and by an indication of the nature and the scope of actual or anticipated pollution.
